Scholarly Scope and Academic Orientation

The journal is oriented toward advancing scholarship and practice in community engagement and empowerment through participatory, applied, evaluative, community-based, qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, and interdisciplinary approaches. Articles may address social and cultural development, education and inclusion; economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods; environmental stewardship, disaster preparedness, and community resilience; law, rights, access to justice, and legal empowerment; political participation, civic engagement, and community governance; public health, well-being, and community-based health initiatives; digital literacy, information access, technology adoption, and community innovation; and community engagement methods, participatory approaches, capacity building, program evaluation, and impact assessment.

Contributions involving social, cultural, economic, environmental, legal, political, health, educational, technological, or other disciplinary fields are considered when community empowerment, meaningful community engagement, capacity strengthening, independence, resilience, or demonstrable community benefit remains a substantive component of the problem, approach, implementation, evaluation, and scholarly contribution. Studies that primarily examine disciplinary problems without a substantive community engagement or empowerment dimension fall outside the journal's principal orientation.

The journal's scholarly orientation, disciplinary boundaries, and areas of study are presented in greater detail in Aims & Scope.
