The journal publishes original research and scholarly analyses in the history of philosophy and welcomes historical, textual, conceptual, comparative, contextual, archival, and interdisciplinary contributions examining philosophers, philosophical traditions, concepts, arguments, schools of thought, intellectual transmission, and the historical development of philosophical inquiry across different periods and regions.
The journal places substantive quality, methodological consistency, academic integrity, accuracy and traceability of philosophical texts and historical sources, and editorial transparency at the core of its scholarly publication process.
Journal Identity and Publisher
SIGn Journal of the History of Philosophy is published by CV. Social Politic Genius (SIGn) as a medium for scholarly communication and dissemination in the history of philosophy and related philosophical traditions.
The journal considers articles that demonstrate relevance to its scholarly scope, clarity of the philosophical or historical problem or research objective, novelty, scholarly contribution, and consistency among the theoretical, conceptual, or historiographical framework, research approach, primary and secondary sources, analysis, interpretation, and conclusions.
Information on the journal's editorial structure is available on the Editorial Team page, while information on reviewers is available on the Reviewer Team page.
Scholarly Scope and Academic Orientation
The journal is oriented toward advancing scholarship in the history of philosophy through historical, textual, conceptual, comparative, contextual, archival, hermeneutic, and interdisciplinary approaches. Articles may examine ancient and classical philosophy; medieval philosophy; Islamic philosophy; early modern and modern philosophy; Asian, African, and other philosophical traditions; the historical development of metaphysics, epistemology, logic, ethics, political philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, and related areas; as well as the transmission, translation, reception, reinterpretation, and transformation of philosophical ideas across periods, languages, cultures, and intellectual traditions.
Research in intellectual history, the history of ideas, religion, politics, literature, science, or cultural history is considered when philosophical concepts, arguments, texts, traditions, or modes of reasoning remain substantive components of the research problem, sources, analytical framework, and scholarly contribution. Studies concerned primarily with general historical events without a substantive philosophical dimension, or with contemporary philosophical problems without meaningful historical engagement, fall outside the journal's principal orientation.
The journal's scholarly orientation, disciplinary boundaries, and areas of study are presented in greater detail in Aims & Scope.
